Moscow is an old city. According to the classic history, the city was founded by Duke Yuri Longhands. It was first time mentioned by historians in 1147. The latest archeological digging in downtown has revealed remains of the much earlier settlement. However, they could not dig long enough, because Moscow is a modern city as well. Therefore, they build a large underground mall right at the city birthplace.
